A filter material, for cleanable filters used to filter off noxious solid liq. or gaseous substances, consists of a nonwoven material which is produced by water jet consolidation of fibres and which is joined to the front and/or rear face of a support material so that coarse pores of the support material are reduced in size by the incorporated fibres.
