Piston for a fuel-injected diesel engine

Surface (10) of a piston of a diesel engine with direct fuel injection includes a trough (12) around which are several channels (20). The piston trough ends of the channels open tangentially to the trough and are formed so that they produce a flow that is directed towards an impingement point of an injection stream in the piston trough. Preferably the other ends of the channels are within the periphery of the piston surface. Valve pockets (22) may be provided on the piston surface, in which the channels are functionally integrated.
