The assembly to collate folded printed sheets (1,2), and the like, has a conveyor (8) to carry them overlapped over each other with their folded edges in the lead in the movement direction at least partially between the folded pages of the preceding folded sheets. A lateral barrier (12,13) restricts the forwards movement of the folded material by restraining the leading folded sheet in each group, while a unit (9,10) pushes the remaining sheets in the group forwards against the barrier (12,13), to give a collated group of folded sheets.
