Process for removing oil and grease from scale pit water

In a process to remove oil from scale pit water held in a collecting pit or tank, the novelty is that: (a) the water which is discharged from the scale gully flows tangentially into the collecting tank to generate a slight slow motion; (b) the incoming water migrates to a mechanically-calmed oil collection zone (4) where it resides for a while thus facilitating subsequent skimming; (c) removal of the agglomerated oil and grease with a skimmer and about 20 per cent water to a second collection tank; (d) the accumulating oil is removed by a skimmer from the secondary tank, and the water is returned to the first collecting tank.
