An assembly to sterilise medical equipment or instruments comprises: (a) a sterilisation chamber with an outlet; (b) a source of a gaseous or vapour sterilising agent which is supplied to the sterilisation chamber; (c) a vacuum source with a valve, which is linked to the sterilisation chamber and draws the sterilising agent through the chamber; (d) a pipe transporting gas or vapour, which links the open ends of the assembly with a steam outlet throttle, facilitating gas flow from the chamber via the valve and vacuum source; (e) the throttle controls the extraction of one portion of the sterilisation vapour through the chamber passages and vacuum source, while the remainder of the vapour flows directly from the chamber through the vacuum valve and vacuum source, without passing through the chamber flow passages; (f) the sterilisation agent is selected from the group of agents including hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid.
