An apparatus for reassembling nuclear reactor fuel elements includes (a) a first platform (12) located above a deactivating bath surface and vertically above a second platform (14) resting on fuel element storage spaces (4a, b, c) of the bath (1); (b) a vertical fuel rod manipulator (13) with a guide, support and load-bearing body (18) which rests with its upper end (19) on a horizontally mobile section of the first platform (12) and which extends through the first platform (12) for engaging a mobile section of the second platform (14); and (c) a mechanism for synchronous movement of the mobile sections of the two platforms (12, 14) in any horizontal direction.The novelty is that the manipulator body (18) rests on a load measuring device (22) on the mobile section of the first platform (12)
