Production of a radioactive stent (RS) comprises immersing a non-radioactive stent (NRS) in a solution containing a radioactive isotope in ionic form and applying the isotope to the stent electrochemically. The isotope is preferably applied by galvanisation or cementation. The radioactive isotope is preferably an isotope of silver, gold, bismuth, cobalt, chromium, copper, iron, gadolinium, mercury, holmium, indium, iridium, lutetium, manganese, nickel, lead, palladium, promethium, platinum, rhenium, rhodium, ruthenium, scandium, samarium, terbium, technetium or yttrium.
