Compounds of formula (I) useful for inhibiting Ras function and therefore inhibiting or treating the abnormal growth of cells (farnesyl protein transferase inhibitors) are disclosed or an N-oxide thereof, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof, wherein: Q and T are independently selected from halo; W and V are independently selected from H and halo, provided that at least one of W and V is H; R1 is H or alkyl; X represents N, CH, or C when the double bond is present at the C-11 position; R is -OR?3, -NR3R4 or -SR3; and R3 and R4¿ are independently selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl, arylalkyl, substituted arylalkyl, heteroarylalkyl and substituted heteroarylalkyl.
