Thermal dye transfer assemblage

A thermal dye transfer assemblage comprises: (a) a dye-donor material comprising a support bearing repeating dye layer patches of a dye dispersed in a polymeric binder, at least one of the dye patches containing a deprotonated cationic dye which can be reprotonated to a cationic dye having an N-H group which is part of a conjugated system, and at least one other dye patch containing a pendent basic-substituted dye of formula (I) A-(L-B)m A = a thermally transferrable dye residue; L = a divalent linking group; B = a basic substituent; and m = an integer 1-3; and (b) a dye-receiving material comprising a support bearing a polymeric dye image-receiving layer containing a hydrated transition metal or metalloid salt of a strong acid; such that (a) is superimposed on (b) with the dye layer in contact with the dye image-receiving layer.
