An upturned tongue shaped mainframe of rigid and formable sheet material such as plastic is preshaped so its top working surface will have strategically place d convex areas as well as side wings, hollows and perimeter reliefs. The said mainframe h as straps permanently attached to the wings on its sides which in turn attach to the baske tball net hoop assembly's side most hooks. The top tapered end of the mainframe has two cl osely spaced 90 degree bends that form a locking tab. A mostly rectangular shaped plia ble plate material such as plastic is fitted with circular holes of various sizes, a ngles and spacing so as to form an object that while performing its main function is readi ly adaptable to various designs of net hoop assembly braces. This plate also houses a horizontal slot to accept the locking tab of the mainframe. When the mainframe t ab is inserted into the horizontal slot of the universal mounting plate that is hung f rom the net hoop braces they become the hinged break away point for the ball return device. When the ball is netted by the player and comes in contact with the device's surface it is returned to the player in relation to its net entry angle in any one degree of a 180 degree arc from the face of the backboard.
