The contact device connects a liquid crystal display plate (4) to a parallel printed circuit board (7) via a U-shaped contact clamp (1), engaging a number of contacts along the edge of the liquid crystal display plate. The contact clamp has contacts (6) along the inside face of one clamp arm (2), pressed into contact with corresponding contacts along the edge of the liquid crystal display plate, the other clamp arm having contact elements along its outer surface contacting respective conductor path contacts of the printed circuit board. A soft elastomer layer (12) is applied to the outer surface of the first clamp arm.
