PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of a false contour when a dynamic image is followed by eyes by correcting the present image data in response to the movement of picture elements near the signal level generated by the false contour. SOLUTION: A moving vector detection section 25 is constituted of a binary arithmetic block 26 provided with binary arithmetic sections for individual colors and a comparing/detecting block 27 provided with comparison sections for individual colors, and the movement of an image between fields is obtained by block matching. A majority decision integrated judgment section 28 judges the number of moving picture elements and moving direction of each detecting block KB and registers the judged result in a moving vector table 29. A data correction process section 4 corrects the picture element data of a false contour section with a correction table generated based on visual experiments in advance. The movement of the picture elements near the signal level generated by the false contour is grasped, and the present image data are corrected in response to the movement of the picture elements.
