发明名称 Method of making filament-wound pressure vessels
摘要 988,582. Winding filaments on hollow bodies. B. F. GOODRICH CO. Sept. 27, 1961 [Oct. 5, 1960], No. 34700/61. Heading B8G. A former 10, Fig. 1, that is to be wound with filamentary material 34, has its longitudinal axis 13 inclined to a fixed predetermined winding plane F such that the plane F intersects the end portions 28a, 28b of the former and also intersects said axis 13 at a location between said end portions. The former 10 is rotated about an axis 24, normal to the winding plane F, so that the material 34 is wrapped in endwise loops from one end portion to the other end portion along the shortest available path between these end portions. In addition, the former is rotated about its axis 13 for a fraction of a complete rotation each time an end portion of the former is presented to the filamentary material. As shown, the intermittent motion about the axis 13 is effected by a drive mechanism 17 operated intermittently by limit switches 13 located under a rotating table 20 and tripped periodically by lugs 54 mounted on the table. The apparatus also includes traversing means 70 to 75, Fig. 3 (not shown), whereby circumferential windings can be applied to the former over the lengthwise windings L, the former 10 being rotated continuously about its longitudinal axis during the formation of the circumferential windings. The material 34 is a tape of weftless strands of filamentary material (see magnified section in Fig. 1), such as glass fibre filaments, the strands being encapsulated in a moulding resin. The function of the resin is to enable the strands to be bonded one to another in the finished article so that the wall of the latter is of continuous material. The strands of the tape are individually tensioned. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the strand 34 is supported by one end 64 of a pivoted arm 60, the movement of the arm 60 being controlled by a cam 66 such that as the former 10 is rotated about the axis 24 the end 64 of the arm 60 maintains the strand 34 thereon at a position close to the former 10. The former 10, Fig. 10 (not shown), may be of plaster or metal or a plastic having a low melting temperature so that the former can be easily destroyed to effect its removal from the wound assembly. In Fig. 10, the former 10 has an outer rubber layer 31 that has been cut away at one point to accommodate an apertured reinforcing patch 77 that is then coated with a suitable adhesive or resin. Thereafter, one or more layers of the lengthwise winding may be wound on the former over the patch 77. Additional similar patches may be applied to the windings concentrically with the first patch between successive layers of the windings, and an outermost patch (not shown) is applied after the winding is complete. The finished article is then treated to harden the resin and the portions of the windings traversing the central openings of the patches is cut away to provide an opening into the article.
