PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the automatic setup processing method by which a capacity of an image memory is saved and the processing speed is improved by using a read image with a resolution suitable for contents of arithmetic processing in Lane automatic setup arithmetic operation that atutomatically calculates a conversion mapping to convert an original image based on the read image. SOLUTION: In the case of conducting the automatic setup arithmetic operation to automatically calculate a mapping used to convert an image based on a read image, an area processing is conducted with a histogram processing to generate a histogram by using the read image and the result of the histogram and area processing to be obtained is used to calculate the mapping used to convert an image.
