PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alloy powder improving the hydrogen gas generation quantities before and after a discharge and large-current discharge characteristics and is suitable for a negative electrode active material by adding an inhibitor to the powder made of a Zn-base alloy containing specific quantities of Bi, Sn, Mg and not containing noxious materials such as Hg, Cd, Pb, having the appearance specific gravity within a specific range, and mixed with two or more kinds with different grain sizes. SOLUTION: A Zn-base alloy contains Bi and Sn within a range of 0.001-0.5 wt.% respectively and Mg within the range of 0.0015-0.07 wt.% with respect to pure Zn. The Zn base-alloy is made of the powder mixed with two or more kinds having different grain sizes for increasing the specific surface area, without increasing the voids of the alloy powder of this composition. The powder with the appearance specific gravity of 1.0-1.5 g/cm<3> under an inhibitor adding condition is used. Secondary indium oxide is preferably added within a range of 0.03-0.04 wt.% as the inhibitor, for example. |
