The ventilation system has flap which uses a plate (28) pivoting about an axis (30) to control the flow of air, with its own toothed gearwheel (40) arranged coaxially with it to drive it rotationally. The toothed gearwheel carries a range of flexible teeth that can be deformed in a radially direction and extend over an angular section with respect to the axis of rotation of the flap. It is arranged to be driven by a toothed sector (54) which provides a stiff drive so as to correct free play between the two components.
