PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide preferential data transmission between different ATM service categories by letting the priority of interface modules depend on a connection parameter. SOLUTION: Storage queues LIM1SQ1-LIMqSQq of respective interface modules LIM1-LIMq respectively correspond to different ATM service categories. The value of connection parameter in a cell terminated from a bit stream BS is checked by a route designating means RM and the ATM service category related to the cell is determined. This cell is routed toward the interface module and storage queue related to the determined category. Access to a common transmission medium UDATA is based on queue priority LIM1QPR1-LIMqQPRq determined by queue priority determining means LIM1QPDM1-LIMqQPDMq.
