<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for obtaining actual information concerning to an imminent crash of an automobile and an object. SOLUTION: In order to detect and evaluate an imminent crash of an automobile and an object, the object is detected in the form of a spectral line by an FMCW method. Time chart of the amplitude of spectral line is formed and determined through an appropriate filter (94). Lateral offset (y) between the automobile and the object is determined (97) by comparing at least one actually determined time chart with a stored characteristic chart. As an alternative mode or in combination with aforementioned mode, the lateral offset may be determined based on the characteristic time chart of relative speed.</p> |
