The armature (12) shaft (14), supported by the motor casing (2) face (4) and by a rear base-plate (8), carries the fan (39), whose air-flow passes over the motor. A metal support plate (30) between casing and base-plate carries an epoxy plate (20) with the brush-gear (22) on one side (26) and fan speed control circuitry on the other (28). A power transistor (42) on the epoxy plate abuts the metal support, from which, in this area, cooling fins (44) project into the air-flow. Elsewhere, a scoop (32) on the base-plate diverts air into the motor in two streams (34,36). One (34) is behind the epoxy plate, exiting by base-plate vents (35). The other (36), circulating through the armature core (16) and windings (18), leaves through the vented (38) casing.
