A safety candle for decorative or functional use is set ina container (1) with a thermal insulation layer between the wax (3) and its outer surface so it can be handled without risk of burning. The container can have a double wall, with the inner wall (2) made from a material which is a poor conductor of heat, and there can be an air space (7) between it and the outer wall. In a variant of the design the thermal insulation can be provided by an outer wall of terracotta, while the container has a bottom layer of a non-flammable material, such as sand, crushed stone or plaster, which also gives stability. Other materials used for the container can include metal foil for the inner wall and cardboard for the outer one. |
