In a process for producing carbon black, hydrocarbon fuel is introduced through conduit 18 and air or oxygen through conduit 16. The mixture is ignited and the resultant combustion mass proceeds through chamber 5 until it meets hydrocarbon feedstock introduced through conduit 12 and air introduced through conduit 14. The turbulent mixture then passes to reaction zone 3 where the hydrocarbon feedstock is decomposed to form carbon black.
