A continuous current electric furnace is claimed incorporating a tank (1) having a bottom (2) and closed by a removable cover (12) and at least two electrodes each connected to one of the two poles of a source of continuous electric current. One of these two electrodes (14) is consumable and the other is a sole electrode (3) crossing the bottom (2) of the tank (1), which is made up of an external wall (21) covered with a refractory lining (22). This external wall (21) incorporates at least one boss (4) including the lower part of each sole electrode (3) and limiting by a fixing face (42) for each sole electrode (3) and a lateral face (41). The annular space (44) between the electrode (3) and the lateral face (41) of the boss (4) is filled with a refractory material extending over the whole length of the sole electrode (3) between the fixing plate (42) and the inner face (27) of the sole and is joined to the refractory lining (22) covering the remaining part (28) of the bottom (2) of the furnace.
