The maximum length of the beaters or flails (2) permits low-vibration rotation of the flail-fitted shaft (1.2). The flails or beaters are fitted adjacently, and perpendicularly on the shaft so the flail lengths decrease continually to the centre from both shaft ends to suit the curvature of the trunk. The free ends pound the trunk surface at short intervals, crushing and/or damaging the bark at a large number of points. The section of the flails or beaters can be rectangular, square, round or in other shape and their heads present a smooth surface with corners, edges, tips or blade suitable for bark crushing etc. The flail-fitted shaft is motor powered round its longitudinal axis. The beaters or flails can be lifted alternately and then swung back down by spring, gas power or piston to impact the trunk in the radial direction. The flails or beaters can act on the trunk from all sides at once.
