TEST SPECIMEN HOLDER

A test specimen holder (14A, 14B) for holding a test specimen (12) in a material testing machine (10) that applies force loads to the test specimen (12) includes a base member (40) having a first end (42) coupleable to the material testing machine (10) and a second end (46) remote from the first end (42). A longitudinal axis (15) extends from the first end (42) to the second end (46). Retainer means (48, 48', 60) positioned over the base member (40) and operably coupled thereto provides an axial retaining force along the longitudinal axis (15) for retaining the test specimen (12) against displacement without impacting significant radial compensation force to the test specimen (12).
