The cable fixing shell has a lower (1) and upper (12) parts with a recess (17) between them and this may be used to locate a cable, e.g. telephone wire. The unit can be fixed to a surface with the aid of a nail (5) that is inserted through a hole (16) in the parts. The top element may be turned to give access to a slot (22) into which a label may be inserted.
