In a holder for a spinning &c. spindle of the kind in which the foot 5 of the holder 1 carries integrally or otherwise a recessed plug 8 housing a bush 7 serving as a footstep for the lower end of the spindle, the foot is surrounded by a cup 11 containing lubricating oil inculated by the rotation of the spindle, apertures being provided in the bottom of the recess at 15, in a washer 17 between the bottom of the recess and the bush and radially at 18 in the foot. As shown, the plug 8 is screwed into the end of the foot, a loose washer 21 prevents the oil splashing upwardly, a centering and damping spring 22 is provided between the bush 7 and the plug, the cup is of resilient plastic and has projections 12,12a co-operating with a shoulder 13 in the foot so that it can occupy a working position and a position when all the oil can be drained into it for removal and replacement, while a collar 5a keeps dust out of the cup. At its central part, the spindle is supported by two porous half bearings 25a, 25b in a metallic ring 26 surrounded by a flexible ring 27 resting on a washer 28 and covered by an oil-trough 31 in a dish 6 integral with the holder. This is secured at 2 to the spindle rail. |
