<p>The wheel consists of a rim (1) and a centre (2) formed from a hub (22) and a flange (6), with a shock absorber (5) between the centre and the rim, held in place by side pieces (3, 4) and fixing bolts (7). The inner portion (9) of the rim has two concave surfaces (10, 11) on either side of the wheel's plane of symmetry and connected by a generally flat inner surface (12). The shock absorber (5) has a tulip-shaped cross-section, and is made from two rings (19, 20) of an elastic polymer material fixed between inner and outer metal linings, one co-operating with the inner part of the rim and the other with the hub side pieces. The polymer of the shock absorber is preferably of rubber charged with additives to control its rigidity. The sides of the shock absorber can be roughened to improved adhesion.</p> |
