Procedure for detecting and tracking fires via satellite. The procedure is based on the use of one or more satellites 1 equipped with a bi-spectral infrared sensor, the field of observation being adjustable and able to reach angles of up to 60 degree with respect to the nadir 2. Observations are carried out frequently, as a result of which the satellites form a constellation in an orbit with an inclination close to the latitude of the area observed. A computer incorporated into the satellite itself 1 processes the detection and sends the user directly the information on location, intensity and tracking of the fire, enabling rapid intervention for putting it out. <IMAGE>
