PURPOSE:To provide a discharge lighting device capable of preventing the occurrence of monochromatic light emission or flicker at the time of a hot start, without extinguishing an unstable discharge arc upon lighting. CONSTITUTION:This discharge lamp lighting device supplies AC rectangular waveform power from a DC power supply 2 to a discharge lamp 1, thereby lighting the lamp 1. Also, the period of the AC waveform is controlled with a control means 14, so that a lighting time T at the first reversal of the polarity of the waveform of the AC rectangular waveform after lighting the lamp 1 becomes longer than a half-period time T1 at an ordinary AC rectangular waveform frequency. |
