PURPOSE:To keep favorable recording quality level at all times by a method wherein a cap, which is press contacted against the discharge port forming surface of a recording means and accepts waste ink, is equipped so as to deliver the waste ink in the cap with a sucking means and, at the same time, an ink removing member, which communicates the interior of the cap with open air, is equipped. CONSTITUTION:A cap 51 is provided so as to be opposite to the ink discharge port forming surface of a recording head at the home position of a carriage 11 in order to forcibly deliver the ink accepted in the cap 51 by the sucking force of a pump (or a sucking means). In the cap 51, the tip surface of a rub 51a surrounding an ink suction port is made to be inclined. Onto the carriage 11, a member 100 for removing the ink in the cap with an air intake 101 thereon is fixed with a screw or the like so as to take air in through the air intake 101 by pumping after the capping to (or abutting of the cap 15 against) the member 100 for removing the ink, resulting in surely sucking and delivering the waste ink in the cap 51 by shifting the carriage 11. |
