PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare an inhibitor of the synthesis of a heat shock protein, having 47 kDa molecular weight and capable of treating diseases manifesting the morbid state of accelerated production of an extracellular matrix by formulating a specific glycyrrhetinic acid compound as an active ingredient therein. SOLUTION: This inhibitor contains a glycyrrhetinic acid compound represented by formula I [R is H, a monosaccharide residue after removing OH at the 1-position, a disaccharide residue after removing OH at the 1-position, R<1> -CO (R<1> is H or an alkyl), etc.] or its salt as an active ingredient. Glycyrrhizic acid represented by formula II or glycyrrhetinic acid represented by formula III is especially preferred in the compound represented by formula I. The glycyrrhetinic acid is contained in, e.g. a crude drug such as Glycyrrhizae Radix. The inhibitor is capable of effectively treating especially cirrhosis, interstitial pulmonary diseases, chronic renal insiffuciency, hypercardia, screloderma, arteriosclerosis, articular rheumatism, etc. |
