BACTERIA CAPABLE OF DECOMPOSING TEREPHTHALIC ACID AND AEROBIC TREATMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain terephthalic acid-decomposing bacteria having high decomposing ability in wide temperature conditions and useful for treating waste solutions from caustic reduction treatments of polyester-based woven fabrics by being Alcaligenes sp. K1 strain belonging to the genus Alcaligenes. SOLUTION: The subject bacteria are one or more of microorganisms comprising a microorganism Alcaligenes sp. K1 strain (FERM 16154) belonging to the genus Alcaligenes and having terephthalic acid-decomposing ability at preferably >=40 deg.C and a microorganism Rhodococcus sp. L1 strain (FERM 16213) belonging to the genus Rhodococcus and having terephthalic acid-decomposing ability. It is preferable to aerobically treat terephthalic acid-containing waste solutions by using the terephthalic acid-decomposing bacteria.
