PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To diagnose Alzheimer's disease(AD) including early and later critical ADs and evaluate the advance of the dementia by detecting the presence or absence of presenilin-1 (PS-1) isoform or a DNA encoding the PS-1 isoform. SOLUTION: A PS-1 sample such as a cerebrospinal fluid is collected and subsequently treated by an isoelectric point electrophoresis method, an immunoassay, etc., to determine the presence or absence of a PS-1 protein isoform, especially intron polymorphic protein isoform, in the PS-1 sample. A DNA-containing biological sample such as blood corpuscles is collected and subsequently screened with an oligonucleotide probe labeled with a proper detectable group, etc., to determine the presence or absence of a DNA encoding the PS-1 protein isoform, especially the intron polymorphic protein isoform. |
