The transporting device for patients or bedridden persons comprises a movable basic frame (2), a motor drive having a motor and at least one drive wheel, support wheels (3) fastened on the four corners of the basic frame (2), a lifting and inclining device fastened on the basic frame (2), a stretcher (8) intended to transport a patient or a bedridden person and couplable to the lifting and inclining device, and a control panel (4) provided on the basic frame (2) for controlling the transporting device. The drive wheel is arranged in the centre of the basic frame (2) so as to be pivotable about a vertical axis, and the support wheels (3) are designed as steering rollers. The control panel (4) can be pivoted about a vertical axis relative to the basic frame (2). Since the drive and the lifting and inclining device are centrally installed below the support frame (9), the result is a uniform weight distribution on the movable basic frame (2), and this leads to satisfactory controllability and steerability of the transporting device.
