AGENT FOR PREVENTING FORMATION OF DENTAL PLAQUE AND DECOMPOSITION DENTAL PLAQUE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject preventing and decomposing agent having effects for inhibiting the flocculation of oral bacteria and dissociating the flocculation product by including galactosyl trehalose. SOLUTION: This agent contains as an active ingredient a galactosyl trehalose[O-β-D-galactopyranoxyl (1→6)-O-α-D-glucopyranoxyl-(1→1)-α-D-glucose, etc.]-containing composition or highly pure galactosyl trehalose produced by purifying the composition. The galactosyl trehalose-containing composition is obtained by adjusting the reaction product of 1-20 wt.% of lactose with 1-20 wt.% of trehalose to a pH of 6-7, treating the product withβ-galactosidase orβ-glucosidase at 40-60 deg.C, and subsequently concentrating or drying the product solution. The agent inhibits the flocculation of bacterial belonging to the genus Actinomyces and bacteria belonging to the genus Streptococcus, and dissociates their flocculation products.
