PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively use a thermal transfer type ribbon. SOLUTION: A ribbon 500 comprises a yellow panel 510, a magenta panel 520 and a cyan panel 530 which are provided for transferring different three colors. Mark recording regions are provided to respective right side sections thereof. Each of the panels is divided into plural sectors, e.g. 3×3 sectors. The recording is performed on the mark recording regions by each sector unit so that 'used' or 'non-used' is managed by each unit of sectors 531, 532, 533 of the ribbon. During the recording, the ribbon 500 can be moved back and forth. When the non-used sector is retrieved, the recording is performed using the sector so that it is possible to use the ribbon in a highly efficient manner.
