An epoxide of formula (VI): wherein R1 is hydrogen, C3-6 alkyl, C3-6 cycloalkyl (optionally substituted with C1-4 alkyl), allyl, pyridyl, furyl or thienyl, phenyl or phenyl(C1-4)alkyl; R4, R5, R 6 and R7, which are the same or different, are hydrogen, C1-6 alkyl, allyl or phenyl; wher ein phenyl rings are optionally substituted with one or more of halogen, nitro, C1-5 alkyl, halo(C1-4)alkyl, halo(C1-4)alkoxy, C1-4 alkoxy, phenyl, phenoxy, benzyl or benzyloxy (any of the latter four groups being optionally substituted with halogen); and Az is a 1,2,4 - or 1,3,4- triazole or imidazole ring. The epoxides are of use in the preparation of compounds having fungicidal activity, plant growth regulating activity and herbi cidal activity.
