PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect deficiency in the residual quantity of ink toner, and the like, or defective carriage of a recording medium using an inspection mark printed on the recording medium. SOLUTION: When a nonprint part of a recording sheet is detected by an empty sensor and no inspection mark is detected subsequently, a decision is made whether the count in an inspection mark counter is '2' or not (S33). When the count is '2' (S35: Yes), a decision is made whether the count in an ink counter is higher than a specified count or not (S35). When the count of the ink counter is higher than the specified count (S35: Yes), run out of ink is alarmed on a liquid crystal display (S36). When the count of the ink counter is lower than the specified count (S35: No), sheet jam is alarmed on the liquid crystal display (S39) and a transition is made to the processing of S37. |
