PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a surface treated metallic sheet excellent in fingerprint resistance and earthing properties anti utilized for electronic parts equipment or the like requiring good earthing properties. SOLUTION: (1) In a metallic sheet 1 coated with chromate 3 or a metallic sheet 1 coated with chromate 3 and plating 2 in which the surface roughness is regulated to <=1.0μm by the center line average roughness Ra prescribed by JIS-B0601 and the upper layer is applied with organic composite coating, coating material in which the nonvolatile content is regulated to 5 to 20 wt.% is applied in such a manner that the weight of the coating is regulated to 0.25 to 1 g/m<2> and the coating area ratio of the organic composite coating material to the surface of the metallic sheet is regulated to 70 to 99%, and (2), by using a roll coater, organic coating material is applied on the metallic sheet by an applicator roll reversely rotating in the progressing direction at the circumferential speed of >=1.1 times the coating line speed.
