METHOD OF PREPARING HIGHLY PURIFIED ALPHA-1-PROTEINAGE INHIBITOR

There is disclosed a highly purified concentrate of alpha-1-proteinase inhibitor. A method of removing proteins having disulfide bonds, with mild reducing agents and a temperature sufficient to prohibit regrouping of the reduced proteins, results in essentially pure alpha-1-proteinase inhibitor. This method can be combined with a heat inactivation process.
