The coat hanger has a bar (3) over which a garment is hung. A block (4) has a curved surface (4B) which holds the garment on the bar. An elastically deformable block (8) is joined to the top of the hanger and pivots round an axle (8A). The deformable block is joined to the gripping block and moves it tangentially to the upper surface of the bar (3A). The gripping block is moved between a position on the bar (S1) and a position (S2) in which a garment can be removed from the bar or put on it.
