The vehicle anti-theft device comprises a steering column having a toothed wheel in which an immobilising pinion (12) meshes. The pinion is immobilised by a friction part (28) the clamping of which is ensured by a pushrod (24) which can move axially relative to the pinion. The pushrod is controlled by an axially movable runner (23) which is rotationally immobilised relative to a pinion support but rotates with the central rod (18). The runner and the pushrod are engaged by a set of control surfaces (60,68) which cause an axial displacement of the pushrod by an additional clamping of the friction part when the pushrod pivots relative to the runner. An immobilising torque is provided to the anti-theft pinion with in a minimum of space and at a low cost. |
