The procedure for cleaning the steam generator of a nuclear reactor with pressurised water cooling consists of applying a non-corrosive cleaning solution to the surfaces of the secondary part of the generator after every six years of cumulative operation, and the tube plate after every two years of operation, using a fluid which dissolves and removes deposits containing iron oxide, especially magnetite, particles. The cleaning solution contains a chelating agent such as ethylene tetraacetic acid, hydrazine and a corrosion inhibitor, and is kept at a temperature of close to 140 deg C during the iron oxide removal phase and 90 deg C during passivation and rinsing phases. The procedure can also include a phase for removing copper oxide. Removes deposits before they become harmful to operation of reactor.
