FIELD: solid fuels. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to briquets than can be used as fuels and also as reducing agents and metal carriers in cast iron production. Mechanical and heat strength of carbon-containing briquets is increased if briquets are manufactured from heat-treated mixture containing 10 to 60 wt.-% of metallurgical waste in the form of oil and dross-containing sludge and/or blast-furnace dust and/or iron dross; 1 to 15 wt.-% of sulfonic acid derivative or molasses, 0.01 to 10 wt.-% of lime; and coke or carbon fine, the balance. Lime is uniformly distributed in mixture or is applied onto briquet in the form of saturated aqueous solution layer with 5-30% of sulfonic acid derivative or molasses added. Manufacturing carbon-containing briquet involves mixing coke or carbon fine with other briquet components, addition of lime, briquetting under pressure at least 5 MPa, heat treatment at 250-700 C for at least 5 min, and cooling. The latter operation can be performed simultaneously with applying lime solution onto hot briquets at the expense evaporation of moisture from solution. Briquets can also be cooled by agitating then with oil and dross-containing sludge and/or blast-furnace dust followed by separation of briquets. EFFECT: increased strength. 4 cl, 5 exs
