A ring spindle has an underwinding region (13) with a yarn clamp which presses against the spindle when spinning is interrupted and releases the clamp due to centrifugal force when the spindle rotates. The clamp (15) is lifted from the underwinding region (13) by elastic deformation in essentially a radial direction.
