Vertical, cylindrical, stirred reactor for e.g. polymerisation of ethylenic- and vinyl chloride monomers and comonomers

New equipment carries out polymerisation. Its cylindrical reaction vessel (1) has supply and offtake connections (2, 3) and a multi-bladed stirrer (4). As appropriate, further internal structures e.g. baffles (5) are contained. There is also a novel internal heat exchanger comprising a series of shell profiles welded to the inner wall, which are bell-shaped in cross section. Also claimed is a method of polymerising ethylenic unsaturated monomers in aqueous solution, using the equipment as described.
