X-ray tube using electromagnets for deflection of electron beam

The evacuated tube (3) encloses the cathode (1) from which the electron beam (10) passes between two electromagnets (31a,31b), each comprising a U-shaped yoke (33a,33b) of thin sheet metal with a winding (37a,37b) around its base (34a,34b) between the two limbs (35a,36a;35b,36b). The portions of the limbs in the vicinity of the electron beam are substantially parallel to one another. Their ends (41a,42a;41b,42b) face one another across an air gap which separates magnetic poles of the same polarity.
