The converter housing accommodates impeller, turbine and guide wheels. The impeller wheel (3) is driven by the power unit. The turbine (8) and guide (11) wheels can be coupled alternatively to the output member (22). Dependent on the required direction of rotation, the turbine or guide wheel is coupled to the member, or in a third working position neither is coupled to the member. A clutch can be used between each wheel and a hub coupled by splines to the member.
