The invention relates to a 2-fluoro-3-(1-fluoro-alkyl)-pyridine-6-yl derivative of formula (I) R<1>(-A<1>-M<1>)a(-A<2>-M<2>)b-B-R<2> wherein the symbols and indices have the following meaning: group B is (a); wherein Q is F or H; R<1> (-A<1>-M<1>)a(-A<2>-M<2>)b is a mesogene radical and R<2> is an alkyl group for example. The compounds of formula (I) are particularly suitable as constituents of ferroelectric liquid crystal mixtures, especially for displays which operate in tau V(min)- mode.
