Optical leak-detection method in fluid-filled package e.g. liquid-filled plastics bag

The method involves scanning the fluid-filled package (2) with an infrared device having a detector (4). The image produced by the detector is evaluated to detect regions on the surface of the package with leaking fluid. The detector is adapted to detect these regions on the basis of the latent heat of evaporation of the fluid, or the different reflection and absorption of fluid and packaging material. A force may be exerted on the packages to press fluid out of very small leakage holes.
